Tuesday Stroll

The Elite Five

1. Iron and Wine: Boy With A Coin

Even though this is only an EP to the upcoming The Shepherd’s Dog, this is probably the flagship release this week and with good reason really. Good ole Sam Beam has come a long way whispers in the mic and light acoustic strums. ‘Boy With a Coin’ has some real sexy grooves to it that will make you realize (if not already) how sweet Beam’s music is to make out to.

2. Every Time I Die: Big Dity

With 2005’s Gutter Phenomenon being a real disappointment when compared to their previous work, Hot Damn, here’s hoping Every Time I Die has got themselves straightened out and are back into tracks like ‘Ebolerama’.

3. We Are Wolves: Total Magique

Montreal’s OTHER lupine pack is back finally with a follow up to 2005’s Non Stop Je Te Plie En Deux. If we can trust We Are Wolves to have improved on their craft in the past two years, then my friend we are in for un grand plasir for sure!

4. Dirty Projectors: Rise Above

For anyone who has not heard of Dave Longstreath’s Dirty Projectors, this probably wouldn’t be the best album to check out first. Unless of course, if you are a Black Flag fan. As if you couldn’t take a guess from the title, or even by my mention of Black Flag already, this is an album of Black Flag covers. It probably won’t be the best Dirty Projectors album around, but worth a listen for sure.

5. Karate Highschool: The League of Tomorrow

Karate Highschool’s all right if you’re into the whole video game rock kinda thing. This album is supposed to be a story in eleven parts (eleven tracks, get it?) so give it a start-to-finish listen a few times first for good measure.

Remember Me?

6. Jars of Clay: Live Monsters

Hmmm… yeah I remember that band. They did ‘Runaway Train’ right? No? Oh yeah, that was Soul Asylum. Well don’t blame me, I really didn’t think I would have to be remembering this band anymore.

7. Various Artists: Monster Ballads Xmas

Man didn’t you ever wish that your family Christmas could be as rocking-out-with-the-cock-out as the rest of your cock rockin’ year? Well now you can with this disc! With all your kids’ favourite classics like ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Rock Around the Christmas Tree’, even ‘Happy Christmas (War is Over)’ by classy acts like Faster Pussycat, Winger, Dokken, and LA Guns, you’ll be having the best Christmas ever. It is never too early to honor Jesus Christ’s birthday with some good cock rock.

Not My Bag - Maybe Yours?

8. Scary Kids Scaring Kids: S/T

Bone Palace Ballet: Man kids love these bands like it was cereal. They tread on the razor thin (get the pun?) line between emo cat-calling, and hardcore technicality. Emocore some would call it. Others would scoff at that stereotyping. I scoff at it all!
