Track-Fu
Five Star Trailer Park - Slow Motion
Museum Pieces - On Deck
Sports: The Band - Warn Me
The Postmarks - 11:59
Travis - J Smith
Gentlemen Jesse & His Men - All I Need Tonight Is You
Hey look, I'm posting on time! What a novel concept. I feel like we're in the part of the where I'm just waiting for (dreading) the snow. I need new music to keep my cozy.
1. Lovely Killbots - Ghetto A
The only Lovely Killbots song that I know really well is the one that appears on the latest Hi-Hat compilation. And it's pretty. This one is not as pretty in the conventional sense, but there's still something really nice about the piano and drums here. It's just a more aggressive type of pretty. I can hear the listed Emily Haines influence in this song, though it's got a bit more sonic guts than her solo work. A neat track though, for sure.
Lovely Killbots @ Rancho Relaxo on Saturday November 22nd w/ Clouds (that look like things) & After the Weather $10 with CD or $7 without
2. Five Star Trailer Park - Slow Motion
Five Star Trailer Park have been touring with Sam Roberts Band and the Tragically Hip. That sounds about right. The guitar in the chorus is nice, and there are some interesting changes in the song, but there are otherwise not a lot of surprises here. They're straight-up Can Rock, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't think they're pretending to be otherwise.
Five Star Trailer Park @ Rancho Relaxo on Weds November 19th w/ Animal Clinic & Thrillharmonic PWYC
3. Museum Pieces - On Deck
I've been sitting here listening to this song by Museum Pieces and trying to think of something to say about it. Influences to mention or some way to make fun of it, something like that. Don't really have anything yet. I like it though.
Museum Pieces @ Horseshoe on Weds November 19th w/ Oh No Forest Firs & Hey Rosetta $8
4. Sports: The Band - Warn Me
Sports: The Band is a terrible band name. Terrible. I am trying not to hold it against them. This song sounds kind of like the Dandy Warhols on a good amount of weed. And I like that. I also like the FUBAR reference. Dammit.
Sports: The Band @ Sneaky Dees on Sunday November 23rd w/ Element Choir & Fall Horsie PWYC
5. Love Is All - Big Bangs, Black Holes, Meteorites
Pitchfork likes the new Love Is All album, so that made me curious to hear some of it. Not that a Pitchfork endorsement means I'll like something; it is, however, an indication that I ought to give it a listen. This is one case where I'm on board with Pitchfork, though, because this is catchy and fun.
6. The Postmarks - 11:59
The Postmarks have quite the fancy MySpace. It somehow manages to be not ugly, which is no small feat on that site. The vocals on this are so pretty, and it sounds kind of like it was sung in the singer's bathroom while she was getting ready for bed. Damn this list for making me not hate anything.
7. Travis - J Smith
Hey, remember Travis? Wait, don't answer that. I really liked some of their stuff, then they got kind of dull. If this song is any indication, they have continued with that trend. Pity.
8. Gentlemen Jesse & His Men - All I Need Tonight Is You
Gentlemen Jesse & His Men sound all fun and shit. Yay 60s music! Yay good Track Fu lists!
Winner
Swedish! Fun! Excellent! Lots of good stuff here this week, though.
Loser
Sounds like wankers.
