Still Life Still - Knives In Cartoons
The Champion Heartache - Emergency
The Whit Sundays - I Want It All
Parker - Just Say When
Where did March go? So quick! I am ready for some record releases and some fun songs for the summer and all of that, not more snow, which is what it appears I will be getting. Boo.
1. Instruments of Lust and Fury - I Am Robot
Instruments of Lust and Fury are following the tried-and-true soft-loud-soft format on this song. It can get a little slow on the verses, but the chorus is very catchy and then things are forgiven. I guess that might be the logic behind that formula, now that I think about it.
BLACK HAT BRIGADE, Instruments of Lust and Fury, Sleep The Season, Hungry Lake @ Rancho Relaxo, Sat. Mar. 29, $5
2. Still Life Still - Knives In Cartoons
I think that Still Life Still is a pretty good band name. Don't you? They're a pretty good band too -- catchy keyboard riff, indie rock boy crooning. They keep you guessing about where the chorus might show up, and then they don't really rely on a chorus at all -- the instrumental breaks serve that purpose. I like it when my ears are kept on their toes. (?)
ZYGIELLA.COM II presents Boxes & Bags, Still Life Still and The Vibrosonics @ Rancho Relaxo, Thu. Mar. 27, $5
3. The Champion Heartache - Emergency
The Champion Heartache are another of the several bands playing a whole whack of venues for the Pitter Patter festival in Toronto this weekend. This is a charming song, with its timid drums and piano. I'm totally won over by its sweetness by the end.
Pitter Patter Festival presents Clothes Make the Man, The Winter Gloves, The Champion Heartache, and Horses @ Teranga, 8pm, $5.
4. Ben G. - Let Me Go
You might think it's odd that Ben G.'s MySpace could list him as sounding like both Filter and James Blunt, but it is somehow true. It's kind of like Filter for an EZ Rock station (so, kind of like that one Filter song that was really big). Or David Usher with a deeper voice. I'm not feeling it, in case you couldn't tell.
5. The Whit Sundays - I Want It All
The Whit Sundays are online on MySpace now! Oh, now I'm nervous. They sound all Brit Pop and Blur-y, but eh, I like Blur. Can we have them back, maybe? This Edmonton band will do for now.
6. Parker - Just Say When
Parker is the best. And so fresh. The hook in this song is alright, but the rest of the beat is a bit too obviously West Coast summertime hip-hop jam. It's not bad, it just doesn't grab me.
Winner
Listen to this song by The Champion Heartache, and tell me you weren't bobbing your head along by the end.

Just for the record the first comment is not from me. BUT, Ben G submitted his song to be reviewed in Track Fu. We don't guarantee positivity.

No worries, Ben submits his own songs. He's not seeking approval, just looking to share his talent with those who like it.
