2005 Warped Tour Compilation

Review Date: 2005-07-19

Now this is a party I'd like to go too. I have never been to a Warped Tour but I would really like to go, I think it would be an absolutely fun festival of music for myself to experience and people with my taste. I mean even people not into punk may dig the Vans Warped Tour, its entirely possible. So as a result of me never seeing a show I feel I am handicapped in this review, and because there are fifty tracks to display I want to make sure that I do an ok job of presenting this album. Anyways I did a lot of brainstorming and came up with a quick way to review the album while still touching on each song or band within it. So without further ado lets check out the saga of Warped Tour.

MxPx - "The Darkest Places" - Bitchin' way to kick start this album, MxPx has been around for a while and is one of the cornerstones of the warped tour, if I went to the concert I would definitely be going with these guys in mind.

Dropkick Murphys - "Sunshine Highway" - Good grudgey vocals, kinda like Billy Idol, and the music offers a combination of Reel Big Fish with Rancid, I suppose thats something I like.

The Offspring - "Beheaded" - Who can't like this band? Anyways The Offspring come at us with a rougher sounding track, but I don't think its one of my favourites by them.

Fall Out Boy - "Saturday" - A shitty song by an even shittier band, it sounds like Good Charlotte if they were impersonating Boy George and the Culture Club.

Hot Water Music - "Poison" - How'd this band get on the album if they aren't on the fucking tour? Anyways this is an ok song by these guys, not a huge fan of the screaming anymore though.

The Academy is - "Checkmarks" - This band is decent, I like the cut of their gib anyways, if you can figure out what the hell a gib is your smarter than me. But the point is they are neat, I would compare them to all that European post-punk stuff like Franz, Interpol, Maximo and all the rest.

Gogel Bordello - "Start Wearing Purple" - This is a weird fucking song, I don't know why but the lyrics really only consist of them saying start wearing purple, which is really stupid, I dont like the song its like punk-polka, which I thought had a shot.

Street Dogs - "You Alone" - I like the chorus but I feel like I might have heard this song when it was originally in the American Pie 2 Soundtrack. No seriously, it reminds me of that Sum41 track featured in that film, I don't know the name of it unfortunately.

Atreyu - "Bleeding Mascara" - Here's a lyric from this song: "SSSCCCCCCCRRRAAAAAAAWWWWWRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", who the fuck can't do this?

Rufio - "Out of Control" - I guess it's some form of Emo, which is not something I really like. This song isn't an exception either, it's unfortunate because I had heard some good things about this band.

Underoath - "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door" - If you like screaming you'll like this song, its chalk full of it. I mean I think its just like Alexisonfire when it boils down to it, this song is good though, because they use a balance between real singing and scream.

Hopesfall - "The Ones" - I don't much like this song, it sounds like Nickelback on the verses and then just sucks up the chorus, so kinda like Nickelback but a little punk. From First to Last - "Note to Self" - Not a bad tune, I like the pacing and the sweet drums. It's a song that starts by coming in with a lot of pace and keeping it through the song, I really like the energy.

Amber Pacific - "Gone So Young" - Ugh....I'm reminded of Simple Plan, so that roughly translates into kill me now because my ears are bleeding.

No Use For A Name - "For Fiona" - This isn't a bad song, its just not something that jumps out at me. I haven't heard anything else by them though so I don't have another reference point.

Boys Night Out - "Composing"- A Canadian band, and a good song to boot, two things I like to see on tours that are mostly through the USA, its good exposure.

Plain White T's - "Take me Away" - Well this kinda sounds like Yellowcard without the gimmick, and that means no violin which means I lose interest very easily in you.

The Unseen - "Weapons of Mass Deception" - It's a nice little punk song, I think my brother likes this freaking band a lot and I can see why, they aren't without their charm. I may look further into them.

A Wilhelm Scream - "Me vs. Morrissey in the Pretentious Contest" -I like this song, its totally a good little punk song, reminds me of Millencolin a bit, but I'm talking their older stuff, around Life on A Plate.

Underminded - "It's kind of like a Bodybag" - This is garbage.

Nural - "Tension" - I don't really know who I think they sound like, but I feel that I have heard bands like them before which means they are probably doomed for failure as they aren't very good...hahahaha.

Mae - "Suspension" - This is like some retro emo or something, its really bad though.

Zao - "The Rising End" - TOO many songs like this on this fucking CD, just crappy screaming and death metal shit that isn't good.

Greeley Estates - "Don't Look Away" - This song has a unique combination of screamo and emo, which isn't something that I think is terrible, but I certainly won't rave about it. I just think that theres too much of this all over this compilation.

Big D & The Kids Table - "You Lost, You're Crazy" - Some ska which is totally cool by me, since its the only ska track thus far I would like to thank the people who decided to mix it up a bit by adding some fucking spice to the mix. This song isn't that bad, I would say that I almost like as much as some of the stuff on the new Planet Smashers disc.

Ok so that wraps up disc one on this giant compilations of fifty tracks, which totals over 2 full hours of punk rock. So I mean the value is there for someone that is really into this kinda punk rock, I myself could possibly buy it but I know that I won't even listen to the whole thing through since theres some tracks that I don't really like, and considering this is supposed to be the Vans Warped Tour disc this isn't really that great of a compilation for me. It seems to be missing some of the bigger bands, and I would hate to spoil it but they don't show up in the second disc, which I will be doing a full track review of as well and it should be the next thing you get from be as it is the first thing on my plate. I suppose in the end this first disc wasn't really something that I terribly liked, on the whole it was definitely below average. There are good points to it but I just can't justify a high grade to an album like this as it isn't consistent enough with the bands they choose and as well the talent level of some of the people that produce that music.

Is the Vans Warped Tour less cool than it used to be?

Do their compilations even get shittier because of the concerts downgrade?

Judgment Passed:

Score: 6.2

Its just not that good, sorry.
