Rob Thomas
Something To Be
Review Date: 2005-05-10
A lot was expected of Rob Thomas’ first solo album. Now that he is free from the shackles of his band Matchbox 20, people expect him to return to the song-writing form he showed on Carlos Santana duet “Smooth”. After hearing Timberlake-esque debut single “Lonely No More”, people’s appetites were whetted even more. The album opens with another brilliant pop-rock tune, namely “This Is How A Heart Breaks”. This is followed by that dancefloor filler “Lonely No More”. One sixth of the way into the album, things are looking very promising. Unfortunately this is where the glimmer of light begins to fade. Many of the tracks, such as “Ever The Same” and the title track sound exactly like Matchbox 20, and could easily fit into any of their three albums
Score: 6.2
